Teena Marie died from a Seizure

Teena Marie was found dead in her Los Angeles home of an apparent grand mal seizure. She was 54 years old.

Born Mary Christine Brockert, Tenna Marie was a white woman who sang rhythm and blues. She signed with Motown in 1976 and teamed with funk legend, Rick James.

A seizure, according to the University of Michigan Health System, is an episode of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. A common seizure type is a grand mal seizure. It causes loss of consciousness, jerking or twitching of all four limbs, sometimes injury to the tongue or mouth, and sometimes urinary incontinence. Additional symptoms may include a pause in breathing and confusion and weakness following the event.
